Engineering Beyond the Standard

Industrial solar projects are rarely simple. Real-world roofs feature chimneys, HVAC units, and varying angles. The key to a successful investment lies not just in the hardware, but in the precision of the PVsyst simulation.

In this case study, we analyze the Andechser Project in Mitterfischen, Germany. This 712 kWp system presented a unique engineering challenge: a complex roof requiring 7 different orientations. Through expert engineering and rigorous analysis, Lion Solar Solutions demonstrates how to achieve a high Performance Ratio (PR) of 84.74% even under challenging conditions.

The Challenge: Mastering 7 Orientations with Shading Analysis

The defining characteristic of this project is the roof topology. The array is split into 7 distinct orientations ranging from azimuths of -67.4° to 112.6° and -157.4°.

The Engineering Solution: To mitigate mismatch losses caused by these varying angles, we utilized the multi-MPPT capabilities of Huawei inverters. By carefully grouping strings, the Module Array Mismatch Loss was kept to a minimal 2.0% at MPP.

Furthermore, a detailed shading analysis was crucial. Using the 3D scene construction in PVsyst, we modeled the surrounding obstacles. Despite the complex environment, the Near Shading loss was optimized to just -2.64%, ensuring the system remains efficient throughout the year.

Anatomy of Losses: Transparency in Engineering

At Lion Solar Solutions, we believe in transparent data. The Loss Diagram is the heartbeat of any PVsyst simulation. For the Mitterfischen project, the efficiency flow is clear:

  • Global Incident Irradiation: 1050 kWh/m².
  • Soiling Losses: Calculated conservatively at -2.0%.
  • IAM Factor (Reflection): Only -0.96% loss due to panel glass reflection.
  • Thermal Losses: -2.62% due to operating temperature.

This granular level of detail allows us to pinpoint exactly where energy is lost and how to recover it, resulting in a highly efficient system delivering 687,896 kWh/year.

Financial Security: Delivering Bankable Reports

For investors, the most critical metric is reliability. This is where Bankable Reports come into play. We don’t just guess; we calculate probabilities.

  • P50 (Expected Average): 687.9 MWh/year.
  • P90 (Conservative Case): 643.3 MWh/year.

By providing a P90 value, we offer a “safety net” calculation. This statistical approach allows banks and investors to assess risk accurately, making the project financially viable and secure. The low variability of the climate data (5.1%) further strengthens the reliability of this report.
